Dishoom Loves - Issue XX

September. She brings a clean change to the air. Of crisp mornings, a golden sunrise and a long, gentle, abiding dusk. Sensations are richer and more visceral now. And deeply delightful for it. To accompany this, you might enjoy our carefully curated selection of talent and beauty below.

We’re feeling inspired by:—

Saheli, a female social enterprise founded in 2015 that empowers women in Rajasthan through ethical fashion. While attending a wedding in the rural village of Bhikamkor, Madhu Vaishnav noticed how every woman owned a sewing machine as part of her marriage dowry. This was an opportunity. Saheli utilises existing skills among women to co-create slow fashion garments with international fashion partners.

We’re filling our cup with:—

Subko Coffee Roasters, a Specialty Coffee Roastery and Craft Bakehouse who seeks to put the Indian subcontinent on both the coffee and craft baking map. Working directly with coffee estates and smallholder farmers, Subko roasts small batches of carefully sourced Arabica coffee, and from different fruit varieties – bringing you the most deliciously meticulous and complex cup.

We’re stomping our feet at:—

‘Dialled In’ London (venue: The Cause), a one-day festival that champions the breadth of South Asian creativity. Expect an ecstatic mix of 30+ DJs and live acts across six stages (huge terrace parties too). We’re official partners, serving up delicious Dishoom food as well as curating the entire food offering. Booking in advance is most wise

We’re gaining fresh perspectives with:—

The Juggernaut, an online publication that brings to light South Asian histories and stories that might go unseen or forgotten. Founded in 2019 by Snigdha Sur, the subscription-based website covers everything from politics to culture to business to tech, celebrating South Asian heritage while also challenging any mistaken narrative in community or history books.

We’re feeling close and connected:—

After Raksha Bandhan, a Hindu festival that honours most special bonds with a ‘Knot of Protection.’ On Monday 19th August, all were warmly welcomed into café to tie a rakhi (thread) around someone of a different faith, nationality or culture, celebrating togetherness. Delve deeper into the history of Raksha Bandhan here.
